The deceased has been identified as Narayanaswamy, and the injured are Hussain, (24) and Khalil (26). All are residents of Bangarpet in Kolar district.
Police said the incident occurred around 1.15 pm when Khalil and Narayanaswamy were busy with flooring work on the fourth floor while Hussain was on the third floor. The scaffolding gave way and they fell to the ground floor. A passerby who noticed the incident rushed them to Bowring Hospital, where Narayanaswamy succumbed to severe head injuries and Khalil’s condition is said to be stable.
A senior police officer said, “The reconstruction work is being done since a week. The contractors and the owner have not taken any precautionary safety measures.”
Speaking to Express, Hussain said, “We all were planning to go for lunch in a few minutes and I was on the third floor when the duo fell to the ground floor before hitting an eclectic wire connected to the street light. I too would have fallen, but my left leg got struck in the scaffolding. Someone rushed to rescue me while I was hanging. I have been working on the site since a week and the duo had come on Wednesday. Mubarak, a labour contractor, hired us.”
The locals said that the police did not come to the spot even after they were alerted about the incident. The JC Nagar police inspector did not answer the calls and did not reveal any information about the house owner.
