A BUILDING site collapse on the Gold Coast could have caused "a Father's Day massacre", a union says.
Tonnes of steel and timber formwork came tumbling down at Robina Town Centre, the Coast's biggest and busiest shopping centre, on Sunday. The accident could have been deadly if workers were on-site or members of the public were walking past at the time, Builders Labourers Federation state secretary Dave Hanna said.
"It's extremely lucky - we could have had a Father's Day massacre on our hands,'' he said. "There could have been carnage.'' Mr Hanna said the union was working with construction company Adco to investigate the cause of the collapse at a multi-level carpark. "We need to find out what happened to ensure it doesn't happen again,'' he said.
